Who Are We?
We are a Voluntary Adoption Agency which has been based in Doncaster since 1946. Voluntary Adoption Agencies, like Local Authorities are able to provide Adoption Services as prescribed under the Adoption and Children Act 2002. The Agency is inspected by Ofsted every three years.
Since 1946, the Agency has been involved in the adoption of over 2000 children born in the UK and more than 100 children from overseas. We were the first Voluntary Adoption Agency in the UK to be approved by the Secretary of State to undertake Inter country Adoption work.
Yorkshire Adoption Agency is a registered Charity and Private Limited company. Although the adoption services provided by the Agency are similar to many of those offered by a Local Authority the structure of our organisation is different.
We are happy for prospective users of our services to view the Agency’s latest inspection report on the Ofsted Website. Our Statement of Purpose is also available upon request from the Agency.
What Do We Do?
- We find suitable adoptive families for children in the UK who cannot live with their birth families and a decision has been made by a Local Authority that they should be placed for adoption.
- We provide counselling and access to information for adults who were adopted as children through Yorkshire Adoption Agency. This may include providing advice about Agencies which could help the adopted adults to trace their Birth Families.
- We advise birth family members about agencies who may help them to make contact with adults who were adopted as children.
- We provide an Inter Country Adoption Service for prospective adopters who wish to adopt a child from overseas. This service is, however, only available to prospective adopters where their Local Authority has a contract with Yorkshire Adoption Agency to undertake this work on its behalf.
