Yorkshire Adoption Agency provides support to adoptees who were directly placed for adoption by the Agency, to access their birth records.

We know that when reaching adulthood, many adoptees want to have information about their birth records and the reasons behind their adoption.  If you were placed for adoption by Yorkshire Adoption Agency, you can access your adoption records by contacting us.

We will make an appointment for you to see an adoption advisor and support you to go through the information.

The amount of information we hold in these records can vary from a single sheet to a few pages, however we still hold records from our inception in 1946.

Yorkshire Adoption Agency has been previously known as;

  • Doncaster Adoption Family Welfare Society

If you are under 18 years old

We train our adopters to support you to understand your life story and develop tools to help with this, such as life story books. If you have been adopted through Yorkshire Adoption Agency, we can support you and, if you wish, your adoptive parents in helping you to understand your life history.

If you are over 18 years old

If you were adopted through Yorkshire Adoption Agency, you can contact us for information about your birth records and the reasons for your adoption. We will provide support, guidance and share this information with you in a sensitive manner.
As an adopted adult, you may wish to attempt to contact members of your birth family. Whilst we as an agency cannot provide a tracing service, we will signpost you to other organisations who will be able to help.

Birth families

Sometimes birth relatives of our adopted adults may wish to make contact with them. Although we do not provide this service ourselves, we will provide details of other agencies who do.
