Trauma Doesn’t End When Adoption Begins

Adoption gives a child the loving care and stability they need to grow and thrive. But the trauma they’ve experienced doesn’t disappear when they join their new family—it stays with them and can show up in many ways. There may well be many moments of joy, but trauma has an impact on the child and their family.

That’s why at YAA we provide robust therapeutic parenting training and lifelong support. Families often need immediate, practical help to manage challenges in those first few years. Small interventions can make a big difference.

We want to create a Crisis Fund to respond quickly when families need us most. This fund would allow us to provide simple but powerful support, such as:

• Books tailored to a family’s specific needs
• Therapy toys to help children regulate emotions
• Craft packs for life story work
