Faith or heritage and adoption

Your faith or heritage doesn’t make any difference to your ability to adopt

Yorkshire Adoption Agency is an inclusive agency that welcomes adopters regardless of their faith, religion, or heritage.

Prospective adopters where English is a second language will need to have a sufficient level of written and spoken English to be able to advocate for their adoptive child with a range of professionals.

Faith, religion and heritage form a vaulable part of an individual’s identity. These will be explored positively during assessment and included in the final report.

Black children are over-represented

Black children are over-represented in the care system in England and can wait longer for an adoptive home to be found for them.

  • On average, they can spend approximately 6 ½ – 8 months longer waiting for a home because there are usually fewer families who would be able to consider adopting a black child
  • We are especially interested in enquiries from prospective adopters from black and global majority communities
  • We offer lots of support to prospective adopters from black and global majority backgrounds and understand some of the barriers you may face such as racism, cultural acceptance, and the adoption process itself.

Multicultural adoption

  • We embed discussions about multicultural adoption at every stage of the adoption process
  • We recognise that there are still some barriers for multicultural placements but we work hard to mitigate these
  • We offer specific training about the challenges and benefits or multicultural placement.
