Adopting siblings
Adopting brothers and sisters can be twice as rewarding.
Brothers and sisters wait on average 13 months longer than single children. 37% of children waiting for adoption are brother and sister groups.
For many people, adopting a sibling group sounds like too much of a challenge; we’re used to the idea of one child coming into a family at a time.
Before ruling out considering brothers and sisters, ask yourself:
- do I have the space, time and energy to devote to more than one child?
- would the impact of two or more children joining the family be too great?
- how might their shared experiences affect them currently and in the future?
There can be some challenges to considering brothers and sisters, but there are many positive too! A brother and sister relationship is likely to be the longest relationship in a person’s life and being able to offer brothers and sisters a loving family home together, can support and strengthen this relationship.
Please consider if you have room in your house and heart for more than one child.
The brother and sister relationship is the most enduring, they should never be separated unless their needs are too complex
