LGBTQ+ adopters
Your orientation or sexual identity doesn’t impact your ability to adopt
Yorkshire Adoption Agency is an inclusive agency that welcomes adopters regardless of their sexual orientation. Same sex adoption is rapidly growing in England as the number of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender couples look to start a family. One in five adoptions in the UK are now by same sex couples and this is continually rising.
At Yorkshire Adoption Agency, we proudly stand with trans and non-binary communities. Everyone deserves love, respect, and the opportunity to build a family.
Our services are inclusive, affirming, and open to all—because identity should never be a barrier to adoption.
We recognise the unique challenges faced by trans communities and affirm their right to safety, dignity, and family life.
Children thrive in LGBTQ+ families
Children thrive just as much as those in heterosexual families and in a lot of cases, grow up to become even more open minded. Research by Coram BAAF suggests gay dads have the highest level of interaction with their children than any other parent type.
You have the same rights as everyone else
You have the exact same parental rights as anyone else who adopts a child.
Children from LGBTQ+ parents are bullied no more or less
A common myth is that children of same sex families are bullied more at school. However, evidence now shows that it is no different to that of heterosexual couples.
You are well supported
Yorkshire Adoption Agency provides life long support to adopters. Not only that, but we are partnered with New Family Social, the LGBTQ+ adopters and foster care charity. This partnership means all our adopters can access FREE Gold membership to New Family Social’s range of support, as well as our own.

What our LGBTQ+ families say about us
Yorkshire Adoption Agency have been an extension of our family from day one – providing us with support, training and guidance throughout our adoption journey.
They made our steps to motherhood one of fullness and enjoyment when so much of it can be uncertain and unknown.
We truly feel grateful for everything that YAA has done for us and now, as a family off three with our little girl, we know that YAA will forever be a part of our lives and story. We couldn’t have wished for a better agency supporting our LGBTQ+ family.
As LGBTQ+ prospective parents and as people with our own lived experiences, we don’t always find it easy to trust.
But we were lucky to be matched with social workers who were experienced, skilled, and genuinely supportive.
Their approach made all the difference, and we are incredibly grateful. The training we received was also excellent informative, compassionate, and grounded in real-world understanding.
We also know that adoption is not a destination it’s a lifelong journey.
As a gay man, I never imagined I’d be a parent.
Adopting was the best decision we ever made. It’s not always easy, but the rewards far outweigh the challenges.
