We would really like to hear from families who feel able to support and promote a child’s culture and heritage
Children from global majority backgrounds include any ethnicity or heritage that is not White, for example Asian or Black Caribbean.
There is always a need for more black adopters or adopters from the global majority. We would really like to hear from families from these cultures and ethnicities who feel able positively promote a child’s identity and ethnicity in a loving family home.
Many people can also consider children of different ethnicity to themselves. This are called multicultural matches. There are many positives to a multicultural family but there can be challenges. We offer specific training on this area should you wish to consider it. We will fully support you in assessment to explore your skills and knowledge as needed.
If you are considering a child with a different ethnicity, ask yourself:
- Can you talk about difference in a balanced and sensitive manner?
- Do you have lots of people in you network with an understanding or experience of different ethnicities and cultures?
- Could you manage any potential racism you or your child may experience?
Children from black and global majority backgrounds need loving families to help them have a positive sense of their cultural history, have traditions/cultural history shared with them and to develop a strong positive sense of self.
Black children wait 6 months longer than the average for all children.

We are passionate about finding loving, stable homes for the children with a plan for adoption who wait longer than others. In March 2025, we recruited a specific person to address the racial disparity in adoption. Find out more about our community project here.
