At 78 years old, Yorkshire Adoption Agency is one of the oldest adoption agencies in the country. As an agency we have seen huge changes in adoption. From our beginnings as the Doncaster Adoption and Family Welfare Society, with a focus on adoption of children of unmarried mothers to our current approach to adoption: helping adopters and children from all backgrounds to become family.
We pride ourselves on our long history of wrap-around support but are also a forward-thinking agency. We felt it was time to update our image and launch a brand-new website.
The website re-design has been developed in partnership with our adopters, two especially have given hugely of their time and expertise. Our new colours have been inspired by springtime, which brings new beginnings, and reflects our modern approach to adoption.
One of our biggest challenges is finding homes for back children who may wait much longer for adoption.
Did you know that some black children may face a lifetime in care because there are no adopters able to provide a home?
We know that Black African and African-Caribbean communities are hugely generous and giving but often face barriers when considering adoption. Recently, our Chair of Trustees, Ray (the only black chair in the UK) and Anna, a black trustee who was adopted by a white family in the late 1970’s spoke on BBC Radio Yorkshire with Sile Sibanda about the need for families for black children. Listen on our YouTube channel here
We understand that being a parent is a lifelong commitment which is why we offer lifelong support to all our families. Our training and resources are regularly developed and growing, with core training and additional modules that you can come back to, anywhere along your adoption journey, when you need them.
