The annual LGBTQ+ Adoption & Fostering Week begins on March 3, 2025, aiming to inspire more individuals within the LGBTQ+ community to explore adoption and fostering opportunities.
Organised by New Family Social, the UK’s dedicated charity for LGBTQ+ adopters, foster carers, and special guardians, this unique campaign connects prospective parents and carers with agencies like Yorkshire Adoption Agency eager to welcome and support them.
YAA truly values adopters who are a part of the LGBTQ+ community. Their unique perspective and experiences can support children who are no longer able to live with their birth families, to promote a positive sense of identity despite their challenges.

LGBTQ+ adopter, Scott says; “We were made to feel to welcome adopting through Yorkshire Adoption Agency and are so glad we did. Our social worker was so friendly and really supported us through the process. We are now Dad and Daddy to two amazing boys who have completely changed our lives. I would recommend adoption to anyone in the LGTBQ+ community.”
Since it began in 2012, LGBTQ+ Adoption & Fostering Week has seen a remarkable increase in adoptions by same-sex couples. In England, the proportion has risen from 1 in 31 adoptions in 2012 to 1 in 5 in 2023, reflecting the growing acceptance and encouragement of LGBTQ+ individuals in the adoption and fostering landscape.
But there are still many LGBTQ+ individuals who hesitate to pursue adoption or fostering, often due to misconceptions about eligibility. We know that sexual orientation or gender identity is not a barrier to someone’s ability to provide a loving and stable home for a child. Yorkshire Adoption Agency are actively seeking diverse families to meet the varied needs of children waiting for adoption.

Change Lives in ‘25 focuses on empowering LGBTQ+ individuals to transform lives through adoption or fostering. By participating, prospective parents and carers can access resources, attend informational events, and connect with experienced LGBTQ+ adopters and foster carers who share their journeys.
